R³ Devotional - Day 169

R³ Devotional - Day 169 - Proverbs 27

By: Anderson Baptist Church

Proverbs 27:2 – Humility and Recognition: This verse teaches the importance of humility. Instead of self-praise, it is better to let others recognize and commend our efforts. Please do not ask them to praise you either. True honor comes from external validation rather than self-promotion or manipulated praise.

Proverbs 27:5 – Honest Correction: Open rebuke is better than hidden love. This highlights the value of constructive criticism and honest feedback, even when it is difficult to hear. We usually start defending our positions when someone is giving us honest corrections. True love involves guiding others toward wisdom rather than avoiding confrontation. We also avoid confrontation because we don’t want to get the other person mad or hurt their feelings.

Proverbs 27:6 – Trust in True Friendship: The wounds of a friend are faithful, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. This verse reminds us that genuine friends may correct us out of love, while false friends may flatter us with insincere words. We have many acquaintances but few true friends.

Proverbs 27:10 – Loyalty in Relationships: This proverb advises us not to forsake old friends or family connections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong relationships. With some relationships don't burn bridges, keep them open. In times of trouble, a nearby friend may be more helpful than a distant relative.

Proverbs 27:15 – Avoiding Strife: A contentious person is compared to a continual dripping on a rainy day. This warns against persistent conflict and negativity, which can wear down relationships and peace of mind. Be careful with those persistent leaky people that think their way is the the best way.

Proverbs 27:17 – Mutual Growth: "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." This verse underscores the importance of relationships that challenge, confront and refine us, encouraging growth through meaningful interactions. Iron on Iron is sometimes rubbing each other the wrong way, but True AGApe  Love does not hold records of wrongs. Sometimes after an argument people become better or even best friends.
