By: Jennifer Novosad
Our Redeemer Lives! This book is full of Love!
Real: Life Principles
*Love Drove Ruth to Stay with Naomi
In Chapter One, it tells us that an Israelite family moved from the promised land to Moab where Israel's enemy lived because of a famine. Naomi loses her husband in Moab and her two sons marry Moabite women (remember the instructions from Moses not to intermarry?) and then she loses her two sons. Naomi decides to move back home to Judah of Israel. Ruth, her daughter in law, makes a vow to stay with her instead of going back to her home to find another husband.
"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."
Ruth 1:16
*Love Drove Boaz Toward Ruth
In chapter two we meet Boaz while Ruth is working in his field. Ruth was a Moabite and was beautiful. It could have been dangerous in the fields for Ruth, but Boaz is a man who loves God! His workers respected him. He protects Ruth by telling her exactly where to work and instructs his men to leave her alone because he has heard of her choice to care for Naomi.
May the Lord repay you for what you have done, and may you receive a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge! Ruth 2:12
In Chapter three Naomi informs Ruth that Boaz is a relative that could redeem their family. By law he could marry Ruth and buy back Naomi's husband's possessions that would have gone to her sons. Naomi instructs Ruth the proper way to approach Boaz and ask him if he would be their family's redeemer. He agrees but he must get permission from one family member that was closer kin first.
“Now don’t be afraid, my daughter. I will do for you whatever you say, since all the people in my town know that you are a woman of noble character.”
Ruth 3:11
In chapter 4, We see Boaz approach the other relative in the company of witnesses and state if this man will not redeem Naomi's family then he will and they come to an agreement. Boaz then becomes Ruth's husband and buys back all of Naomi's husband's possessions. They were also grandparents of King David!!
