R³ Devotional - Day 49

R³ Devotional - Day 49 from Leviticus Chapters 16-18

By: Justin Haecker

These chapters summarize The Day of Atonement, Forbidden Sacrifices, Prohibition of Eating Blood and Carcasses, and Forbidden Pagan Practices.

Real: Life Principles (What truths or principles are found?)

  1. Access to God at this time was extremely limited, precisely calculated, and could result in death or punishment if not done correctly.

  2. An annual ritual (The Day of Atonement) was performed in which two goats were offered. One signified the forgiveness of sin by God, and the other signified removal of guilt from the Israelites by God. In addition, the people also fasted, abstained from sex, and other personal practices as showing of “atoning” (“covering up”)

  3. Generic places of animal sacrifice outside of the Tabernacle, sacrificing to idols, and drinking the blood of animals was prohibited.

  4. God strictly prohibits several immoral pagan practices such as incest, adultery, child sacrifice, homosexuality, and sexual acts with animals, among others.

Relevant: Life Applications (How can this be helpful?)

  1. Realization that through Jesus Christ, who is the bridge, we now have access to God the Father and can call to Him at any time.

  2. Accept that Christ is now the one single sacrifice that both covers our sin and removes our guilt. The price has been paid for us, and we no longer need to “cover up” our sins.

  3. Awareness that people often do what they want to, or how they want to, not how God has instructed us to do something. They can become absorbed into common culture, or what is easy, and turn away from God’s holiness by conforming to things that aren’t holy.

Ready: Life Action Steps (What will your next action steps be?)

  1. Utilize the ability to pray and reach out to God, which can be taken for granted. Be sure to come to Him for anything, but also adoring His almighty power, confessing my sins, giving Him thanks for all of my countless blessings, and requesting His supplication for help in my own, or others, needs. (ACTS, A=Adoration, C= Confession, T= Thanksgiving, S=Supplication)

  2. Share the Gospel with others so they can know Jesus, to remove the burden of sin and guilt weighing on their souls and on their hearts.

  3.  Keep my eyes on God and His word. Constant prayer and dedication to His teachings do not allow my eyes to wander to another target. My hands and feet will follow my eyes.
