R³ Devotional - Day 148
R³ Devotional - Day 148 Psalm 111 - 118
Can believers argue with these points? … Great are the Lord’s Works (Psalm 111), The Righteous Will Never Be Moved (Psalm 112), Who is Like the Lord Our God? There is no other like HIM! (Psalm 113), What does NOT Tremble at the Presence of the Lord (Psalm 114), We Should Give Glory to God’s Name! (Psalm 115), We Love the Lord (Psalm 116), The Lord’s Faithfulness Endures Forever! (Psalm 117), and His Steadfast Love Endures Forever (Psalm 118).
In each of these deep and meaningful Psalms, David is emphasizing that believers should hold true to their hearts and trust in God wholeheartedly! I am the first to admit that life is not without difficulties, as I have seen so much heartbreak losing loved ones too young and in not-so-pleasant ways, and I have stretched my family to the absolute limits, chasing a career that I thought would be beneficial to them when it was really tearing us apart. Please know this is not at all about me though. Most believers have faced the same, and I am certain there are those who have faced worse. The point in all this is that we can take comfort when we know and trust God, when we understand the things that these Psalms are pointing out. To me they point out that we just cannot fathom the plans of the Lord, but we can rejoice in being a part of His plans and what He provides to us as believers as we walk in those plans.
If you are familiar with King David’s life, the author of this string of Psalms, we should see clearly that someone who had been through so much, seen so much good and bad in his life, was still praising the works of the Lord, recognizing the greatness of the Lord, and proclaiming His faithfulness and love to him.
Real Life Principles: Where do you stand on reaching out to God? Is it just a day or two a week? Is it just on a few holidays? Is it just when times get tough? I am glad that believers think of Him no matter the level, but what we must realize and apply to our lives, is that God is there all the time, waiting to hear from us, waiting for us to use our gifts He has blessed us with for His plans. What adjustments do we need to make to better serve our Great and Loving God?
Relevant Life Applications: Be looking for God in all situations. Someone who crossed your path in need, someone who needed a shoulder or embrace, someone who needed to hear the Gospel, someone you needed at a particular time are all examples of God working His plan. Do not think of situations such as these as passing chance or random…God is at work in our lives at all times, working His plans, and fulfilling His covenants.
Being Ready with Life Action Steps: Let us all just open up and admit…we can all “step-up” our game for the God we serve. That carries a lot of weight, doesn’t it? However, for such a Glorious God, Righteous God, Faithful God, Loving God, isn’t it worth it? I once read a secular book that highlighted Givers and Takers, and it was a powerful read because it lines up with so much of what we see today. So where do we stand as believers? In my mind we take (accept) God’s salvation and then become Givers in that fact that we give His love and His light to others…not just on Sundays, but everyday He blesses us with!
