R³ Devotional - Day 107

R³ Devotional - Day 107 1 Samuel Chapters 25-27

By: Daniel Arguijo

This stage of David’s life is a very chaotic period. Samuel has anointed him as a king, but he is  on the run because King Saul is trying to kill him. YES! Saul is basically hunting David, and in  the previous chapter, we see a picture of David sparing Saul for the first time.

Now, in chapter 25, David is looking for help, and he comes across this man named Nabal,  who is very rich, and has a lot of resources, but decides not to help David and insults him by  disregarding him.

Chapter 26 brings us an amazing story of David sparing King Saul’s life one more time. As Saul  was still persecuting David, God gave him and his soldiers a deep sleep and allowed David to  get very close. However, he decided not to act upon this opportunity. This is a great scene of  mercy, I’m not sure if many of us would act the same way in a situation like this.

And on chapter 27 we see David moving to the land of Philistines trying to move far away from  Saul so that way he can stop chasing him and he can be safe.

In the middle of this chaos in the life of David, there is something that stood out to me: David  did not take any action against the people, despite having the opportunity, he left it all in the  hands of God.
Real: Life Principles

• Despite being hunted and insulted, David did not act upon his natural instincts; he let the  Lord take control of his situation.

• The word of God in Romans 12:19 says: Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[a] to  the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Relevant: Life Applications

• We need to leave any opposition, any difficulties, any direct conflict we have to the Lord. He  is the one who takes care of our fights.

• The Lord fights for us. We saw it in our recent Nehemiah studies. He is always looking out for  us, we need to trust he is powerful to overtake anything that comes in front of us.

Ready: Life Action Steps

• If you have any conflicts, any issues, maybe persecution in some way in your job or  community, the only action you should take is kneel and pray to God and let him take action  upon your situation

• Trust in your powerful God. He was promised to fight for you, to be with you, to deliver you.  Remember Romans 12:19, the vengeance is the Lord’s.
